This England! An Exploration of Renaissance to 20th Century Music from the British Isles

There wasn't much that was remarkable about the former East Germany but the incredible musical heritage of three of its cities is simply incomparable. In Leipzig one finds J. S. Bach, Mendelssohn, Robert and Clara Schumann, Grieg, and the birthplace of Wagner. In Weimar we find Franz Liszt and the endless parade of his visitors and students, plus both Goethe and Schuller on the literary side and more Bach! In Dresden we can delight in the music of, you guessed it, Bach and Carl Maria von Weber and no less than nine premieres of Richard Strauss at the beautiful Semper Opera House. My visit this past Summer to these extraordinary places was simply revelatory and the urge to share it is overwhelming.
