Stuff! As a society, we’ve accumulated so much stuff that we now have to rent space for the extra stuff that we can’t fit into our homes. Garages no longer store cars but toys, clothing, furniture, and other accumulated stuff. In this three-session course, we will explore the historical and psychological reasons for clutter, the methodologies of three popular decluttering experts: Marie Kondo, Fumio Sasaki, and Joshua Becker, and cover specific solutions for several major clutter categories. In class one, we will address “flimsy plastic” and “fluttering paper,” the easiest category to start with if you’re feeling overwhelmed. In class two, we will look at strategies to purge excess clothes and books, two categories that can quickly overtake your closets, floors, and drawers. In the last session, we will tackle the hardest category: important documents and cover ways to purge them sensibly while protecting your sensitive information.
