Interviews With Authors

How do authors choose subjects for their books? How is research conducted? When does a writer decide to incorporate personal experience into a work of nonfiction? What is the rewrite process like? How does a book get made into television? In this class, Claudia Kalb will conduct interviews with writers about their books on a wide range of subjects. Guest authors include Lynn Povich, award-winning journalist and author of The Good Girls Revolt: How the Women of Newsweek Sued their Bosses and Changed the Workplace (inspiration for the Amazon Prime series, Good Girls Revolt); Peter Szabo, writer and author of Finding Maria: A Memoir; and Diana Henriques, award-winning financial journalist and author of numerous books, including The Wizard of Lies: Bernie Madoff and the Death of Trust. Each class will feature a discussion of narrative nonfiction, an author interview, and Q&A with students.
