This will be a lively discussion course on flying the Atlantic where comments and questions are always welcome! We will cover early aviation trailblazers who pioneered technologies and long-distance flying such as Glenn Curtiss and Jimmy Doolittle and unknowns like Clinton Woolsey and John Benton. The "firsts" who risked their lives to fly the Atlantic non-stop including Harry Hawker, Alcock and Brown, Nungesser and Coli, Charles Lindbergh, Hermann Kohl, Costes and Bellonte, as well as Beryl Markham. The instructor will share his experiences flying long distances across the Atlantic as a Navy and airline pilot. We will cover crew concepts, air safety developments, and the growth of technologies. Together, we will discuss the growth of the airline industry, how aviators worked to make flying the Atlantic routine, and the "Golden Age" of air travel. We will cover classic aircraft such as Pan Am flying boats, Lockheed Constellations, Boeing 707s and 747s. We will discuss leaders like Juan Trippe, Howard Hughes, and C. E.
