America in the 1950s: Suburbs, Suspicion, Segregation, and Space

America in the 1950s has been referred to as The Golden Age of America. Soldiers returned from war and the GI bill made it easier for some to move to the suburbs. Family life was changing, too. In Congress Senator McCarthy was suspicious of many and he was determined to find the communists and weed them out. Some referred to this as the age of hysteria. The Supreme Court addressed school racial segregation with the Brown v. Board of Education decision. The country was thrown into a conflict in Korea and there was a crisis in the Middle East. The Soviets launched Sputnik and a race to space began. Boomers were growing up and TVs were finding their way into most homes. Music saw the beginning of Rock 'N' Roll-so much to explore.
