It's hard to imagine a time when Vienna, the capital of the Austro-Hungarian empire, wasn't hugely important to western classical music. Beginning in the late 18th century with the music of Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, and Schubert (a composer actually born in the capital), Vienna became the musical model for all other cities to follow. Composers like Liszt, Brahms, and the Strauss family would make their mark in the 19th century followed by Schoenberg, Webern, and Berg in the 20th. We would be remiss if we did not discuss the politics, art, and architecture of this amazing city along with its incredible music
