The guitar is a highly versatile instrument that is used in a wide range of musical genres and styles in many countries. The class will explore the history of the guitar and jazz guitar, as well as music from the movies. We’ll visit Latin American guitar and round out the class with a glimpse at life through Klezmer music and Yiddish songs.

Vladimir Fridman

Vladimir Fridman, earned his degree in civil engineering from Moscow Hydro Melioration College and in music from Moscow Music College Pushkin. Despite the promise of a career in engineering, he pursued his passion for the guitar. Born and raised in Moscow, Russia, he was active in some of the best Moscow theaters and in a Philharmonic orchestra. As a member of the show group Jazz Balalaika, Fridman toured Europe, the Middle East, and Japan and released four albums, as well as performing in concerts as a soloist, accompanist, and in ensemble. He arrived in the US in 1998 and became known to the musical community in the Greater Washington, DC area, as a musician in several bands and as a gifted composer. He now operates a successful Guitar Studio and his students have won awards at the Montgomery County and Maryland state levels.
