Participants will uncover the haunting beauty of blackout poetry, a transformative technique where existing text reveals hidden poems waiting beneath the surface. The history of this literary method and its recent renaissance as a popular creative practice will be explored in this two-hour class.
Blackout poetry allows everyone to become a poet by revealing hidden meanings in existing prose. Working with Edgar Allan Poe's short stories, students will learn techniques for identifying powerful word combinations, creating narrative flow between disconnected phrases, and making compositional decisions that enhance their poetic expression.
No prior writing experience needed, only curiosity and a willingness to see familiar works reimagined.
Fee: $25.00
