Made in America!

Granted we import much of our classical music diet from other countries, but we also produce many fine works domestically. During the 19th century we relied on European models for our inspiration as our country was in the process of creating its musical infrastructure. In the early 20th century composers like Gershwin and Copland combined their European training with the vast diversity of American music to produce music that was uniquely American. Subsequent composers like Bernstein and Barber built on the ideas established to take their compositions in new directions. Like the United States itself, American classical music is full of variety and diversity-come and explore.
