This course employs an economic framework to analyze and evaluate economic policy issues affecting businesses and consumers. Market efficiency, environmental concerns, health care issues, future of work, AI, monopolies, inequality, as well as social entrepreneurship, are some of the topics we will explore. Our goal is to better understand how companies and society identify and respond to the needs and requirements of consumers and constituents. Further, the course will consider how to apply economic tools to examine the need for, and impact of, policy and regulation in a market economy. Throughout the course, we'll also discuss the ethical and managerial implications of policy decisions.

Ting Zhang

Ting Zhang, PhD, is an esteemed Associate Professor at the Merrick School of Business as well as Associate Director of the Jacob France Institute at the University of Baltimore. She teaches courses in economics, aging and entrepreneurship, and workforce development, among others. As Principal Investigator, Dr. Zhang's scholarly interests are rooted in human capital, employment dynamics, entrepreneurship, and workforce development. She has successfully secured about $10 million in grants from multiple agencies including the US Departments of Agriculture, Education, and Labor. Mainstream media outlets, including Forbes, Time, Bloomberg Businessweek, Academic Times, Market Watch, Epoch Times, and The Baltimore Sun, have reported on her work. A frequent keynote speaker at conferences in the United States, Europe, and Asia, Dr. Zhang's insights have been instrumental in shaping policy decisions globally.
