This online course is six weeks in length and introduces one of the most important artists of the Post-Impressionist period, Paul Gauguin. With his decision to sail to the South Pacific Islands, Gauguin prospered, and there produced some of his most original works, which include paintings, drawings, prints, woodcuts, and several writings and journals. We will explore through lecture how Gauguin was a successful stock broker before coming to the world of art, was married with a family of five children and at some point abandoned all of this to dedicate himself solely to art, causing him financial hardship and loneliness. Join us for a critical analysis of several of his paintings in the form of a PowerPoint presentation, rich in images, that invites questions and discussion.
