The purpose of this course is to understand and appreciate the literary art of Bernard Malamud; to read literature closely; and to understand themes, ideas, and values reflective of the human condition. Most important, the purpose of good literature is aesthetic pleasure-stories to be enjoyed for their own sake-and seeing how literary themes connect with your own experiences. The book we will use is entitled The Complete Stories of Bernard Malamud.
