After an inauspicious start in a flop off-Broadway show when she was a teenager, and with only two Broadway shows to her credit, Barbra became an entertainment phenomenon by the time she was 22. Recording artist, movie star, TV star, and movie director-she's done it all, apparently, with no formal education beyond high school. In her career to date (she has a new album coming out, amazing considering she is 82 years old), she has won two Academy Awards (best actress and best original song), 10 Grammy Awards including the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award and the Grammy Legend Award, five Emmy Awards, four Peabody Awards, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, and nine Golden Globes. During the semester, we will focus on her films, such as Funny Girl, Hello Dolly, Yentl, The Mirror Has Two Faces, Nuts, What's Up Doc, and Prince of Tides, and will also show clips from some of her concerts.

Stan Levin

Stan Levin has a degree in Film and Theatre from New York University. He also studied theater at the graduate level at the Catholic University of America. He was a documentary film maker for the US Department of Agriculture and an award-winning writer of radio and TV commercials. He was a nationally syndicated film critic, and is a frequent lecturer on film and contemporary culture in the DC Metro area.
