A Photo Tour of Birds and Bird Behavior

Have you ever seen a bird and wanted to know what kind of bird it was? Observed unusual behavior by a bird, and wondered what it was doing and? Been curious how and why different types of birds have evolved in different ways as they adapt to their environment?

The core of this six-week course will be the hundreds of images of birds by wildlife photographer and bird enthusiast Calvin Schnure, photographed on birding treks in the United States, Mexico, Europe, Morocco, and the Sahara Desert.

The course uses these images to illustrate the wide diversity of species of birds; facets of bird behavior and life cycles, including courtship and mating, nesting, feeding, defending territory; migration and seasonal changes; bird songs; a surprising secret of how birds can fly; and more. The course will also help students build their own practice of observing and identifying birds, visually and by bird song.
