After the Bible, Mary Shelley's Frankenstein is one of the best-selling books of all time. The tropes of Frankenstein have become a part of our culture, as well as giving rise to satire and opposition. We will explore the themes embedded in Frankenstein, how Mary Shelley's ideas might have arisen, why this novel was so revolutionary, and how Hollywood responded to Frankenstein.

Note: If you have never read Frankenstein(!?) it would be profitable to do so. If you have read Frankenstein, a review may be useful. I believe, however, that people are so inherently familiar with the storyline that you would find this course profitable even if you never have picked up the book.
