Experience the storytelling power of dance and choreography in the modern Broadway musical. The instructor will take you on a journey through the styles and influence of several groundbreaking choreographers, to include Bob Fosse, Jerome Robbins, Susan Stroman, and others. In addition, you will take a deep dive into various genres in dance as you are guided through a contrasting look at what constitutes different styles, why and when they arose, and their impact on the future of Broadway. We will look at how lyrics (sometimes nonsense words), props, and staging aid in telling the story, as we explore the importance of storytelling to the modern musical. The instructor will provide personal anecdotes and little-known insights into the world of Broadway dance. Class participation is highly encouraged and welcomed as there will be time for questions, comments, opinions and input. The class relies on numerous clips to demonstrate points being emphasized. Students are asked to come prepared to enjoy and be enchanted and entertained!
