This course takes you on a journey from the pioneers of radio broadcasting, through television's beginnings up to the modern digital technology of today. Explore early radio entertainment, the public's response to it, and the rise of popular radio programs. Learn about government regulation, how the skills of radio and sound technicians developed, and the people who paved the way for television broadcasting. Consider how radio and TV programming has grown and changed from national networks, new formats, and ethnic influences to glimpses of the future in this ever-evolving industry. Week five offers a trip to the National Capital Radio and Television Museum in Bowie, Maryland where museum curator, Brian Belanger, and the museum's exhibits bring the history to life.

Brian Belanger
Brian Belanger received bachelor's degree (Caltech) and a PhD (University of Southern California). Brian was a branch chief at the AEC and directed a joint research project with the Soviet Union. Brian joined the National Bureau of Standards in 1977 serving in several senior management positions. Since retirement Brian volunteers at the National Capital Radio & Television Museum. A museum founder, and its director for a decade, he is currently its curator, a docent, and its journal editor. He received the Museum's Broadcast History Legend Award.Date | Day | Time | Location |
