Presidents and Presidential Performance

Looking forward to the 2024 year of campaigning?  Neither am I.

However, studying past presidents, observing how they got into office, evaluating their performance, and analyzing how they changed the country, can become an important step in cutting through today’s campaign, uh, hyperbole.

This class first will consider differing standards used by historians to evaluate presidents. Subsequently, we will look at how candidates were elected, and seek to understand their performance in office. This class will look at both well-known chief executives and those lesser-known today, and, in many cases, their “ratings” will be surprising.

The goal of the class is for each of us to come out with a better understanding of the office, those who have held it, and how to consider those who seek it.
